As volleyball season approaches, now is a good time to inspect your facility’s volleyball equipment to make sure it is in peak condition prior to the start of the season. Most manufacturers recommend inspecting your equipment at a minimum of once per year, or more frequently if the system is in a public facility or used in a heavy or competition play setting. During this inspection, all components of the volleyball system must be thoroughly checked for proper operation.
All bolts and nuts should be tightened and examined for excessive wear. Any moving parts should be inspected while in operation to ensure they are moving properly, particularly pulleys, winches, quick links, rails, and any rotation points where bushings come in contact with metal. Straps should be checked for signs of degradation or fraying, and nets should be examined for holes or stretched mesh. Check all pad attachment hardware to ensure pads are securely fastened and examine pad vinyl for holes, tears, or worn spots and replace promptly if necessary. Contact a certified installer or contractor to replace any system components that cannot be completely repaired per the manufacturer’s recommendation.
For ceiling-hung volleyball systems, a certified installer will need to visually inspect all pipes to ensure that the finish has not worn, exposing the steel and allowing for rust to accumulate. Pulleys will also need to be examined to make sure they are aligned and that any cables are tracking properly.
